Wasn't a very high paying job though. Basically just a shot at getting to the Bigs

Maybe they get decent unemployment benefits like everyone else?

I wasn't downplaying having a dream at all

I just meant that they aren't gonna lose millions of dollars and their only job like major leaguers. Most of those minor league guys have off season jobs and aren't relying on their meager baseball salary to pay their bills

Not yet. This was going to be the season we made a family outing to go watch. We are Angels fans and were wanting to make the first time there when the Salt Lake Bees came to town. Stadium looks awesome for a Triple A team. First season there was nuts with the crowd and all so we decided to wait for this season. That never was. Family time we worked hard for...robbed.

I don't think it a big deal like the headline says. During a regular season the same amount of players would have been cut at the end of spring training is what I heard last week on sports talk. Sure they didn't get to try out, but this many players would have been cut with no pandemic.

This this is standard /

Over 1500 players a year get drafted in the MLB draft every June .

Hundreds of players get cut like this every season to make room for the new draftees

Baseball will hold its amateur draft June 10, but MLB has shortened the draft from 40 rounds to five.

Opportunities are drastically reduced this time around. A summer with potentially no baseball at all. Even those with kids who play baseball in a Little League or club ball level will never get this time back. I’m not sure about states that are more opened up but out on the West coast it’s not happening. Not even allowed to gather and practice unless kids sneak around and hold practice amongst themselves but nothing organized like with a coach is supposedly allowed. Ridiculous.

Actually, we were supposed to resume our little league season starting tomorrow. We assumed that we'd get the green light on June 1 to start practice (hasnt happened yet) but we plan on having a shortened little league season (we played 3 games this season).

What sucks is that the Cooperstown tournament was cancelled and the LLWS was cancelled as well (our team always represents well).

What sucks is that all star tournaments were cancelled as well. I was looking forward to traveling across the state this summer as i thought my son had a SOLID shot to make the team.

Not having the kids have physical activity in school/camp PLUS no organized sports is TOUGH!!!

yes but no .. rather than lay off some of these guys they will get released .. and some of them have a shot , are post prospect but
still have a real shot to grind out .. but teams are using this as a house cleaning so to speak and to make a point to the union

Tha Angels cut Boldequin in March .. he was. signed for 10s of millions out of cuba in the 2015 signing period .. that was the year of the cuban invasion of cbans becoming available to MLB teams but mlb declared them as international free agents making the choice for MLB teams of signing a full grown cuban professional or a 16 year old international prospect .. the angels had approximately 2M to spend that year on international signees per the salary cap rules ..they blew 12 million on Boldequin that signing period ( 2015 ).

Get this Ham.. the player that the Angels were closest to signing before jumping on Boldeqin and blowing their entire salary amount was
TATIS JR. .. they chose a 20 something Boldequin for 12 Mill plus .. vs Tatis Jr who at that time wouldve taken 500k ish .. and they couldve signed many more players .. the boldequin signing put them in a 2 year penalty phase for inrternational signings
